Geographical location
The district of Fuerstenfeldbruck is part of the government region of Upper Bavaria, planning region 14. It borders to the east and southeast on the capital city of Munich and the district of Munich, to the south and southwest on the districts of Starnberg and Landsberg am Lech. Other neighbors are the districts of Dachau to the north and northeast and Aichach-Friedberg to the northwest.
The eastern part of the district, the metropolitan area of Munich, exhibits a municipal structure with modern residential centers. The communities in the western part of the district bear for the most part rural characteristics.
In a comparison among all 71 Bavarian districts, Fuerstenfeldbruck, with a total surface area of over 100,000 acres and nearly 200,000 inhabitants, is ranked 4th with respect to population and 69th with respect to surface area. It is therefore the most densely populated district in all of Bavaria!
Economic structure in the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck
The economic structure of the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck is characterized by medium sized businesses in industry, trade, handicrafts and the service sector. A total of 37,445 persons were employed subject to social insurance contributions. The unemployment rate in the 2nd quarter of 2004 amounted to 5.1%. Over 80,000 acres in the district are utilized for agricultural or forestry purposes by 732 companies.
Of outstanding significance in the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck is the "FFB Show" that has been held every two years since 1978. This trade show that had 412 exhibitors and 51,000 visitors the last time it was held is organized by the Exhibition Event Fuerstenfeldbruck Gesellschaft mbH, that is owned half and half by the city and by the district.

An agency for the promotion of trade set up in the year 1997, an economic council founded in the same year and a board for the administration of training and jobs in the district office assure good communication among the businesses, the district itself and trainees and those seeking employment. Job portals, info conventions for new entrepreneurs, business start-up sessions, innovation exhibitions, company tours, info meetings for businessmen and the annual Commerce Reception of the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck all contribute to form a good basis for the local economy.
Awards for the district
In the year 2000 the district was awarded the title "Region of the Future", granted by the Federal Ministry for Regional Development and Building. In the same year the project A.S.T. (Call Shared Taxi) received the Bavarian Mass Transit Prize.
Fuerstenfeldbruck is furthermore one of two model districts in all of Bavaria for the AGENDA 21. In this regard, the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck has been granted the European and German Solar Award for the solar plant project "Brucker Land Sonnenland" and for "Public Relation Work concerning Climate Protection in Municipalities".
After the turn of the millennium the district of Fuerstenfeldbruck through the district office has participated in competition for innovative administration in Bavaria. The project "Citizens' Service Center" was especially honored thereby.
